Qenos would like to update our neighbours and local community of the current status of the start-up of the Olefins SCAL-2 plant in Maidstone Street. On Tuesday (8th December) we advised that we needed to address an operational issue prior to completing the start-up. The operational issue is related to some water being present in the refrigerated section of the SCAL-2 plant which has to be removed before we can complete the start-up.
To effectively remove the water while minimising flare impact we have decided to return SCAL-2 to a full shutdown status. We are currently removing feed and will progressively shutdown the plant equipment over the next day or so. This will significantly reduce the level of flaring and community flare impact while purging and dry out procedures to remove water from the plant are implemented. There will still be some intermittent flaring during the dry out process, however, we will endeavour to manage this to minimise the potential for any disturbance to our neighbours.
We will provide further update once SCAL-2 is ready to enter start up mode again.
Refer to the "Sustainability and Community" tab at www.qenos.com for more information about our flare operation.
