Qenos Olefins site had a partial loss of steam supply early this morning the 23rd November which required the SCAL-2 plant to be shutdown to maintain steam supply to the rest of our facilities. The steam system is now operating normally.
The SCAL-2 plant re-start is scheduled to commence tomorrow Friday 24th of November and will take several days. The re-start will require some flaring which is a normal part of the start up process. This start up flaring will be managed to minimise any impact on the community.
Flares are used to safely burn waste gases which cannot be recovered or recycled in the processing plants. Further information about flares at Altona can be found at www.qenos.com
In October 2017 contractors from Coffey Environments Pty Ltd will be out in the northern part of Altona sampling groundwater. This regular monitoring work is being done on behalf of Dow Chemical to help assess the performance of groundwater remediation systems in place on the company’s manufacturing site.
